EXPLORER POST ADVISORS
Sergeant Cottone, Orange County Sheriff's Office: Sergeant Cottone began his career with the United States Navy. After the military, he started his law enforcement career at the Orange County Sheriff Office as a Correction Officer and also worked part time in the Town of Deerpark as a Police Officer. Sergeant Cottone then transferred to the Patrol Division where he has been promoted to Sergeant. Sergeant Cottone is one of the founding advisors of the Explorer Post.
Officer Cameron, Orange County Probation: Officer Cameron began his career in the field of mental health before joining Orange County. First at Child Protective Services and then the Probation Department. A licensed Psychologist as well as a licensed drug and alcohol counselor, Officer Cameron is also one of the founding advisors of the Explorer Post.
Deputy Lynch, Orange County Sheriff's Office: Deputy Lynch earned his associate degree in Criminal Justice, before starting his career at the Orange County Sheriff's Office in 2005. Deputy Lynch has been an Explorer advisor for over 5 years and is also a certified Field Training Officer and General Topics Instructor with the Sheriff's Office. He was also the recipient of the Deputy of the year award in 2011.
Deputy Washburn, Orange County Sheriff's Office: Deputy Washburn began his career in the United States Marine Corps from 1989 to 1993. Deputy Washburn then began his law enforcement career in the NYPD, working all through out the Bronx, before transferring to the Orange County Sheriff's Office in 2005. Deputy Washburn was a member of the Marine Unit and the Honor Guard before being promoted to Investigator and also working as a crime scene technician. Deputy Washburn is a recent addition to Explorer advisor staff and brings a tradition of military bearing combined with police knowledge to the Explorer Post.
Deputy Morales, Orange County Sheriff's Office: Deputy Morales joined the Explorer Advisor staff in 2012. He is a certified Field Training Officer and also involved with Operation Safe Child, a statewide program established to provides parents with child ID cards in the event the child becomes lost or missing. Deputy Morales, a fairly new Deputy, has already established himself as a leader and mentor within the Sheriff's Office. He brings his leadership skills, enthusiasm, and discipline to the Explorer Post.
Deputy Wilke, Orange County Sheriff's Office: Deputy Wilke began his career with the United States Marine Corps. After the military he began a law enforcement career as a part-time officer in the Village of Ellenville, before being hired at the Orange County Sheriff's Office in 2010. Deputy Wilke also brings a combination of military bearing and police knowledge to the Explorer Post.
Officer Murphy, New York State Corrections: Officer Murphy started out as a cadet explorer within the post in 2006. Upon aging out at age 21, Officer Murphy returned to the post as an advisor. While being an advisor within the post, Officer Murphy began her law enforcement career in New York State Corrections as a Corrections Officer. Officer Murphy brings her experience as a past explorer and as a correction officer. She truly represents what our explorer post is all about, which is developing and mentoring the future generation of law enforcement.
Detective Rutigliano, City of Newburgh Police Department: Detective Rutigliano is an 11 year veteran of the dangerous streets of Newburgh, certainly one of the most challenging work environments law enforcement faces. Detective Rutigliano is our newest Explorer advisor, and he brings a combination of street savvy and investigative skills that are very important for our cadets.
